Karma Gurung (Karma Chokyi) is the senior monk of Karma Lekshey Ling Institute, Kathmandu, and a member of the Monastery Management and Development Committee.
He was born in 1980 at Manang and is a fully ordained monk.
At the age of 12 he became the assistant to a high lama in his community. His hard work, commitment and compassion enabled him to gain knowledge of Buddhism.
He received all three vows, the Pratimoksha, the Bodhisattva and Mantrayana. He received many initiations and reading transmissions from many genuine reincarnate lamas and other holders of the teachings. Further, he studied the various sciences and the main treatises.
In year 2004, according to the suggestion of Choje Lama Phuntsok, he started to teach the root text and commentary of Buddhist philosophy, history, grammar etc written by Indian and Tibetan Scholars of Buddhism.
He has been conferred the Khenpo degree (Doctorate in Buddhist Philosophy) in 2013. He is also performing a role of Umze (monk who leads the prayer assembly sessions) at same institute since 2003 and he is also a specialist of making tormas.
He was selected as an assistant Umze for Kagyud Monlam held in Bodhgaya, India
Since 2009. He visited many countries as an Umze for Kagyu Monlams
Karma Gurung is very well experienced in every religious field, especially regarding world peace.
